CineMarfa 2014
This year’s program explored alternative religious experiences and the fringes of belief. In attendance were Marnie Weber, Jodi Wille, Maria Demopoulos, Thomas Beard, Erin Cosgrove, and Cat Power. A highlight of the festival was a screening of Carl Theodor Dreyer’s silent film THE PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC with live musical accompaniment by Cat Power, co-presented by Stomach Club.
Other films screened were TVTV’s documentary LORD OF THE UNIVERSE; IN THE SHADOW OF THE SUN by Derek Jarman; LUCIFER RISING by Kenneth Anger; THE NIGHT OF FOREVERMORE by MARNIE WEBER; THE SOURCE FAMILY by Jodi Wille & Maria Demopoulos; Eva Aridjis’ documentary LA SANTA MUERTE; RR by James Benning; Pier Paolo Passolini’s MEDEA; Eduardo Villanueva’s PENUMBRA; WHAT MANNER OF PERSON ART THOU? by Erin Cosgrove; short films by Georges Méliès and Harry Smith; and Jeff Nichols’ award-winning feature film TAKE SHELTER. Additionally, CineMarfa is joining with The Chinati Foundation to present James Benning’s RR in conjunction with artist Zoe Leonard’s installation 100 North Nevill Street.
