Workshops & Community Screenings
CineMarfa has hosted a number of free workshops and screenings, providing community access to equipment, materials, and instruction and giving participants the opportunity to create and show new work, often in partnership with schools and other organizations.
Video Synthesis Workshop – 2016
CineMarfa hosted Los Angeles artist Jennifer Juniper Stratford of Telefantasy studios, who taught a workshop on the technique of live video synthesis. The workshop drew participants from Marfa, Alpine, and Terlingua.
Marfa High School films – 2015
In a collaboration with Marfa Live Arts, biographical films made by Marfa High School students in a Marfa Live Arts workshop were screened as part of the CineMarfa festival.
Super 8mm Workshop – 2014
Participants were given access to super 8mm cameras, film, and post production services that enabled them each to create a film that was screened during the CineMarfa festival.
Found Footage Workshop – 2013
Using CineMarfa’s archive of educational, industrial, and other 16mm film elements, each participant created a found footage film. The films were transferred to video and screened at the CineMarfa festival that year.
Direct Animation Workshop – 2011
In a collaboration between Marfa Studio of Arts and CineMarfa, Marfa Elementary School students learned the technique of direct animation in their Marfa Studio of Art-sponsored art class. The films that the students created were screened in the Crowley theater as part of the CineMarfa festival.
Year Round Screenings
CineMarfa programs and screens films year round, offering opportunities for a diverse range of guest programmers and visiting artists to share their vision with the community.
